Breathe in deep before I say I CAN FEEL US SLIP AWAY. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It was a terribly slow day for business. Not that it was surprising, given the day of the week. Tuesday was never good for customers, and the cafe typically struggled to hit projections in the middle of the week. It didn't help that there was a raging storm outside. Etienne could see almost nothing but inky blackness, save for the blinding glimpses he could grasp amid the lightning flashes. Thunder crashed overhead, causing an unfortunate start for an older woman. He sighed, staring at the coffee that was pouring over her table top. She was scowling out the window as if the weather were to blame for her jumpiness. Or perhaps she thought it was at fault for her spilled drink? He watched her try to sop it up with napkins. Somewhere in the back of his mind, Etienne knew he should go over with a towel and take care of it for her. That would be the proper thing to do, after all.
Wrinkling his nose, the blond drew a towel from his back pants pocket. He twirled it absently, strolling toward her table without any sort of hurry. He offered to help her, taking care to speak politely. Smiling sweetly at her as her toweled away the sticky mess, he inquired as the whether she wanted a fresh cup. She seemed as if she would decline. Most people would get their checks and leave, in her place. But the weather outside was foul. He saw he eye the window, then give in to common sense. He simply nodded in response, leaving to get her some more coffee. The woman seemed a little crabby. Then again, he wouldn't enjoy getting trapped in a cafe over a rainstorm, either. Dropping the spent rag in a laundry bin, he prepared her coffee disinterestedly. He was running morning shift with just two other people today, both of whom were cleaning and cooking in the back. That left him alone on register and serving. However, Daichi and that new girl...Jennifer? Jessica? Something like that, were both due to arrive shortly.
Taking the woman her coffee and throwing in a compliment to her hair, which did look quite nice in that little chignon, he tucked himself back behind the counter. The storm wasn't supposed to let up until sometime in the evening, and he pitied his coworkers who had to struggle through the downpour. It had only been drizzling when he had clocked in, but the storm had come over an hour ago. It didn't look as if it would let up any time soon. Probably some coastal movement of updrafts or other such meteorological nonsense. Etienne didn't like nasty weather, but it didn't matter much if he didn't have to be out in it. Drumming his fingers along the counter's edge, he watched the second tick by on the wall clock. Five minutes to go. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - TAGGED! He knows no one shines forever
They change with the weather- - - - * - - - - Daichi sat quietly in his car for a moment, watching as the rain pelted his windshield. He was parked outside the cafe, and was hesitant about getting out of his car. It just figured, didn't it? It would rain just as he had to go to work. He'd had to step out into the mess earlier to get into his car from his house, and now he has to step right back out to get into the cafe. His shirt was still speckled with rain, the spots of water darkening his shoulders. Daichi had wondered before if building a garage would be worth the money and effort, and on rainy days like this, he really wished he had one. Plus, a garage would be good for not only keeping him dry when he needed to go somewhere and it was raining, but it would keep hail from damaging his little car, too. It would make his house worth more and if his life suddenly started to really go downhill, he could leave the car running in the garage and kill himself! How useful!
Daichi smiled at his own joke, and glanced to the clock. Well.. He should be heading inside, shouldn't he? Joy of joys. He pulled his keys from the ignition and sighed, getting ready to run out into the rain. Daichi stepped out of his car and quickly shut the door before darting inside the cafe. He didn't bother to bring an umbrella, it wasn't like he was going to be outside much, but he still managed to get pretty wet. So much for his judgment. He squeaked his shoes on the cafe floor as obnoxiously as possible. He had been working at the little shop for a good minute. Longer than most people, but not as long as others. He didn't mind his job, though, he wished he had a better one. The pay was decent enough, he supposed, and his co-workers were friendly enough. Daichi really wished he could make a living doing something he actually liked.. Waiting tables for snotty customers wasn't exactly his idea of a good time.
He grumbled quietly as he clocked in. It seemed a bit of a waste to have him come in. From the looks of things, they weren't going to have very many customers anyway. They didn't really need him there, too.. Did they? Whatever, they'd find some reason to be there if he asked, and he wasn't about to argue about something so stupid. Besides, he was being paid. Not having to do much and still being paid was a nice thing. The rain just really dampened his mood. He ran his fingers through his hair, wondering if maybe the rain was a bad omen? Nah.. That was silly.. He didn't need to be thinking of stupid things like that anyway.. It was worktime, now.

Misplaced admiration SPEAKING FOR A GENERATION. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Etienne's attention was drawn by a blur of white as someone pelted past the cafe windows, hurrying through the door with customary chime. Amused, he watched Daichi squeak along the floor. The other blond was eying the empty table in disdain. He stifled a laugh, noticing how dreary the guy looked. His shirt was rumpled and wet, and the ends of his pants were dark with water. Though Etienne could appreciate the way the droplets lingered on his eyelashes. And on the edges of his lips. They looked nice even at the tip of his nose, in a strangely endearing way. He ran his tongue across his lips absently. He wouldn't have minded to remove the little droplets. He could imagine the pleasant tang of bitter rainwater mixed with the saltiness of Dai's skin. A familiar warmth settled in his gut, and he knew that he needed to set his focus on something besides setting his tongue against Daichi's face and lips. He had all the time in the world to indulge his fantasies later.
For now, the Daichi that was very real and human and not in his head was probably shivering in those soppy clothes. One of the man's hands ran through bright, silky locks and the warmth pressed once more for Etienne's attention. Wrinkling his nose, he ducked quickly into the break room. There he snatched a moderately sized fleece blanket before stealing a large, unused towel from the supply stock. They probably wouldn't need it, anyhow. Sliding back around and past the counter, the Frenchman wove between tables to reach Daichi. "Afternoon, Dai," he murmured, voice low and soft. He wiggled the fluffy blue towel merrily. "You''re all wet, hm? Imagine that." He simply couldn't resist the innuendo. Especially not with Daichi. One hand snaked out to cradle the man's cheek, hoping to keep him still. The other clutched the towel, gently brushing away the moisture still clinging to his pale face.
Etienne's thumb moved in small circles against Daichi's cheekbone, which felt rather delicate beneath his hand. His gaze was precise, staring hard at the one small part of his face as he toweled it dry, making sure to leave a scrub of pink behind each stroke. The poor thing was chilled to the touch, and Etienne was not happy about it. Flesh and blood people were mean to be warm. Perhaps a cup of freshly brewed tea would do him some good. It would be just nearly steamed down enough to drink without burning by now, or at least in the next few minutes. Tea really didn't take long to make. Glancing up, though avoiding Dai's eyes, he let his towel hand fall to meet his hip. The other stayed in place, still quietly stroking Daichi's face. Etienne offered a peaceful, content grin. He was likely feeling awkward, having Etienne come up and start drying him off like a little kitten. His eyes moved to the side, where the disgruntled woman from before was trying very hard to make it look as if she was looking elsewhere. He laughed quietly at that, gaze returning to Daichi. It wouldn't do to let him know they had an audience, however small. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - TAGGED! Dai~! WORD COUNT! Five Three Six LISTENING TO!
