Small brown hands wrapped bandages around a gaping hole in the pale face in front of her...that was facing the chalkboard, thank goodness. Every now and then, 'Anni would stop, pretending that the bandages were stuck to the roll just to pet Maru's hair. It was bright and red and there was a lot of it, but it was so thin...had 'Maru properly washed his hair as soon as he got to the foster home? 'Anne was going to have to wash his hair.
Erm.
Not in a bathtub. In a sink. It would be too awkward for...
A-ANYWAY...
The silver haired girl shook her head, the blush disappearing from her brown face and the mask at the side of her head shifting just a bit. She continued bandaging. They were in Maru's room...it was so white. One window built into the wall right above a small dresser was stained and dirtied with rain drops falling from a steel gray sky. A tree with emerald green leaves now painted near black tapped teasingly against the window.
Done. 'Anni ripped the bandage from it's roll, tapping the one sticking up a little down onto the other layers of bandages that hid under the fiery red hair. Sigh. "Na--I mean, Maru, your hair is thin. I can even see some specs of blood in the scalp..."--how she saw any blood among all that red would be a mystery--"did you properly wash your hair?"
Brash enough to do this, 'Anne ran her head through Maru's hair, careful not to loosen the bandages she had just spent fifteen minutes wrapping.

Cold. Very cold. And it hurt him inside, too. But by now, 'Maru was far too used to the feeling of pain to care. It was the cold that made him uncomfortable. When his bandages are in need of changing, he has to take them off. During that time, his empty eye socket lets breezes from the outside world inside. Luckily, he hasn't caught any sort of disease or anything of the sort yet, so it was fine. But it was quite embaressing that his friend, 'Anni, insisted to do it for him all the time.
In fact, 'Anni insisted to do a lot of things for 'Maru. It was kind of nice, really. He never knew what it was like to have a mother that actually treated him with love, and he guessed it felt like this, though. Sometimes it was nice to rely on somebody rather than doing everything by himself. But still, he remained stubborn and pouted while 'Anni did things for him. And, completely unaware of it, his face turned a little red.
"I don't know, Anni," He admitted. "I... I don't know what properly is..."

Blink blink. 'Anni was so used to having people wash her hair to a point where her hair was strong and full that she forgot about poor Maru. How thoughtless of her...
"I'm sorry, Maru. Hey, do they have any shampoo here? Any large sinks? I can wash your hair for you! I can't go home anyway since it's raining so hard, so I have plenty of time to spare. " Her bright red eyes lit up with enthusiasm to help her friend. She completely forgot ethic here.
She cralwed in front of 'Maru, innocent, happy smile on your face. "May be we can use a bath tub! I can give you a quick wash and--" and 'Anni's smile immediately disappeared as her chocolate cheeks flushed pink. "I mean an industrial sink! W-We can use an industrial sink!" she blurted out, eyes wide and panicked. Her long kimono sleeves flailed from left to right as 'Anni waved her hands back in forth as if she was erasing a chalkboard with two erasers in the same spot over and over again.
Gah, she was so stupid! How could she forget that they couldn't bathe together! Especially here! "You know, forget I asked, o-okay?!" 'little 'Anni finally cried.

He wasn't upset, 'Maru just naturally looked depressed and gloomy. That was probably why 'Anni overreacted all the time about taking back her ideas. He never really got upset with her, though. He watched as 'Anni clitterclattered around his room, erasing his chalkboard and such. He watched with a dull look in his eye, but he was watching. She seemed flustered.
He smirked as she appeared infront of him, rambled on about bathing with him, and then stood up and erased the same spot over and over again, worried. He stood up and stopped next to her. Although he was nine and she was twelve, he was very, very tall for his age, she was kind of short and he was her height, maybe a little taller.
"Why are you so flustered today?" He chuckled, smiling slightly. "I know you're just joking, 'Anni... I-I mean 'Anni-chan."

'Anni felt her cheeks turn red. She wasn't flustered today...well, may be it was the rain making her nervous. Next to bears and blood, rain storms terrible frightened her. "I'm n-not flustered...just..."
Thunder cackled madly and 'Anni found herself tackling 'Maru. Hopefully, he moved out of the way, other wise, he'd look up to see a very nervous 'Anni clinging to him, her head on his chest and her whole body shaking.
Tears budded at the corners of her wide, terrified eyes. How was she supposed to enjoy being with Maru if it was raining? Why couldn't it have been a wind storm or something?! It was only then did she realize her position. Her cheeks tinged pink as she looked at the red head with apologetic eyes.

The rain that was falling outside made clacks on the roof just above them, and in a second it picked up. The sky was dark and angry-looking, threatening to shout thunder down to earth and blind the inhabitants with it's light. 'Maru wasn't afraid of thunder. He just didn't like it. When it crashed down to earth, he didn't flinch, he just ignored it. It was uncomfortable to his ears and he still didn't care.
When thunder clapped like the sky threatened, 'Maru stiillll didn't flinch. But he felt his body topple over. He blinked and looked up in surprised, and his bright blue eyes saw bright red ones that were sparkling from tears. He sighed. 'Anni didn't like storms. He gathered that.
The redhead wasn't embaressed. He didn't know he should be. But the silver-haired girl above him had red cheeks, just like she had all day. Her eyes begged forgiveness, and he accepted it. She was worried, it was understandable to seek support when she was upset. He put his hands on her back and pulled her back down, hugging her lightly.
"Are you alright?"

Her heart skipped a beat behind her chest as she was hugged down. Her eyes widened in the slightest as she gripped the carpet ever so slightly. Well...she shouldn't be embarrassed...she had this coming because she was always helping Maru, always comforting him. There was going to be a day where 'Anni would be thanked.
She snuggled into 'Maru. He was so warm and thin...she hated to admit, but she wanted to pick him up and just steal him home. But, snuggling was okay. "I'm fine," she mumbled, tears still threatening to run down her cheeks.
She relaxed her tense muscles, ready to start clinging if thunder ever hit again....may be she could distract herself? "Maru...is your name really...Namimaru?" 'Anni asked. It was better than her name--as a matter of fact, she thought it cute. It rolled off of the tongue smoothly. Heck, because of it, there are times she wants to call 'Maru by the feminine part of his name rather than by the male part.
